Program: [Exhibitions]

Exhibition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory
Memory Points
29 April - 1 November

Museum tour through sounds and images of the home front.
Images of the pre-war, wartime and post-war times are based on a private collection of gramophone records which belongs to an ordinary Nizhny Novgorod family and archive of personal records.
Artists: Sergey Ivanov (Kaliningrad) and Haim Sokol (Moscow).
Admission free.

Wartime songs and poems contemporary to the difficult and heroic period of history are "placed" into headphones all around the Arsenal building. Visitors travel through the halls constantly encountering these "memory points", stop to listen and through sound impression imagine pictures of life during wartime far from direct military operations. Sound pieces chosen for the exhibition are intended to create impressions of the pre-war, wartime and post-war times; the pieces are taken from a private collection of gramophone records which belongs to an ordinary Nizhny Novgorod family. Visitors don't know beforehand which period of time they will encounter on their way, but all impressions will merge into three-dimensional sound image of that time.

Audio installation rhymes with the central piece of the project - the Well by Haim Sokol, it contains fragments of personal records (letters, photos, drawings, articles from newspapers) of Nizhny Novgorod families. It symbolizes either an archive - vault of authentic information, or a pillbox - permanent fire position, or a well of memory from which we draw images of the past.

It is important that the project is designed for individual perception, it is addressed to a particular person, activates imagination, knowledge and impressions of each visitor.

Opening of the exhibition will take place on April a29 at 19:00.

Participants: sound artist Sergey Ivanov (Kaliningrad) and artist Haim Sokol (Moscow).
