“Complex Issues” is the exhibition of work by young St. Petersburg artists. The famous phrase by Sergei Diaghilev from his major article “Complex Issues” has been taken as an epigraph to this exhibition: “A work of art is important not by itself, but only as an expression of the creator’s personality”.

The artists whose work’s vector is often aimed at themselves and who develop their personal stories into their artistic strategy were invited to take part in the exhibition. The exhibition presents personal “portraits” of young artists living and working in St. Petersburg, and it attempts to analyze the range of young authors’ issues of concern. Among the participants are the graduates of the St Petersburg “School for the Young Artists”.

“School for the Young Artists” is a joint project of the North-Western Branch of NCCA and the St. Petersburg PRO ARTE Foundation. The program aims to develop young artists’ creative potential and critical thinking, establish a playground for their professional communication and support their new art projects. Since the program’s inception in 2000, more than 120 young artists from 10 Russian cities have taken part in the program.
